Dear Gen Writer,

Hello and welcome to my humble abode under the mountain! I, [ profile] Scribe_of_Mirrormere, am so glad to see we have matched on at least one of my favorite platonic relationships! May it be friendships, familial love, colleagues, or mentor-students, these are the character interactions I just cannot get enough of!

I am quite easy to please and always enjoy seeing what other creative souls produce, so do not fret about what you will be creating! I'm sure to adore it to pieces! :) Let your mind relax and your inspiration guide you! Hopefully you will find plenty of mithril while digging down here to use for your tale. Sometimes there may be a few Balrogs about, but not so much this time around unless you wish to explore the darker aspects of any canon I've requested, which you are more than free to do so! :)

Feel free to look through my previous letters for more ideas! I do tend to copy-paste a lot, but there may be additional information you may find useful! :) And please do not feel you are bound to *only* these prompts! I try to come up with as many as I can as guidelines in hopes of them sparking something. If something here inspires a new idea, go with it! I will love it, I assure you! :D You may even go by only the general likes (or from the new general prompts section) as your starting point if these alone set you on your way!

Should you have any questions, please, do not hesitate to ask at all! I will be more than happy to answer any questions! :)

Now, pull up a chair next to the fireplace, and bring some ale, and we shall begin!

🌙 General Likes:
+ I have a pretty broad spectrum of the kind of stories I enjoy reading. I'd love stories that are soft and sweet. I love the doom and gloom. I love humor, banter, adventure, hurt/comfort (a huge love of mine), friendship and dynamics between all relationships, and anything from hopeful endings to devastating tragic ends. I also love dark stories, and I don't care how dark and depressing they get. I have read fics from the Hydra Trash Party meme, to give you an idea, don't feel like there's any limit beyond my DNWs. :) So if you wish to explore darker matters (such as one of the characters getting gravely injured, torture, even death, etc), then that's all fine with me.

+ Worldbuilding and culture, and cultural traditions! May it be further exploration of something in canon, or something new you're introducing where the creator had not explored.
+ Side note for the Moriquendi tribes, I personally draw influence from the following general real-world cultures: Kinn-lai = Native American tribes, Hwenti = African, Windan = East Asian, Kindi = South Asian, Cuind = Middle-eastern, Penni = North European (but the most distinctive trait that they all share is red hair), Nandor = South American, Sindar = ...they're more of a nationality in my mind than an ethnicity, but grey/silvery hair is a prominent feature here, especially since they are similar to the Falmari of Aman. :) Of course you don't have to use these if your headcanon says otherwise, but I've put this here in case you were curious about my own perspective! :)

+ Ghosts! I love ghosts and a good ghost story. Perhaps a character tells a ghost story, or the characters find themselves in a rather spine-tingling atmosphere or situation. Perhaps they are running away from ghosts, getting attacked, or find a ghost (or more) that begs for their help before they can make peace and move on to the afterlife? Here, have some nice scenery porn to help you along if you wish for some visual inspiration! :) I *LOVE* abandoned locations!

+ Generally: OCs! I'm always happy to meet your OCs so never shy away from using them! :) Many stories have need for them! (Telimezh's sisters, perhaps? :D )

+ Holiday-themed or season-themed settings and stories (in this case: autumn! The day is starting to feel shorter, and the air a little bit cooler, but the weather's still wonderful, an excellent time to be with friends and family, and to have an adventure! :) Harvests, apple-pocking, maybe...ghosts even? :p)

+ Seeing the beauty of a terrible storm or the bitterness of a battle won. I love those kinds of tales: pyrrhic victories and so on. :)

+ If you are comfortable with it, I wouldn't mind stories exploring the spiritual aspects of that canon. Especially since the elves and dwarves of Middle-earth have pretty intricate and fascinating ideas about faith and religion, and the Icelandic/Finnish differences in their gods could make for an interesting premise in a story, if you wish to explore that. And of course, The Goblin Emperor gives us a rather spiritual Maia and a fascinating religion to explore! :)

+ I really, really love emotion, especially when it comes out during intense moments such as where one character thinks they may have lost another. I love love hugs, affection, banter, working together, the (much) younger one gaining wisdom from the older one--whatever the particular relationship may entail! :D

+ Characters finding themselves in very complicated situations with no easy solution (my heart might hate you for how much it will be pounding in my chest, but my brain will certainly be tickled and love you for it!)

+ If you can somehow manage to write something where one character does something to trigger ASMR in another (and all ensuing sleepy tropes), I will love you forever! :) Common ASMR triggers: threading fingers through hair, whispering softly into the other's ear, perhaps painting or doing something slowly or contemplatively that the other (the beholder) just watches and relaxes as they do so.

⭐️ Other General Notes
Ratings? - Any is good! (Obviously, no E in this exchange. :) )

Stance on LACE? - I figured I'll add a bit here since many of my requests are Tolkien: I do generally like LACE for what it shows us of the Eldar culture, but I do not believe that it pertains to all elves. The Moriquendi I am certain have a very different culture; polygamy may be a common thing for all we know. I also see it as a bit of a guideline but not some hard and true facts (for example, a couple may be referred to as "man and woman" just for ease of language, but same-gender marriages are definitely accepted in Calaquendi (and Moriquendi) cultures.) One thing for sure, though, is that I hate to imagine elves being capable of rape or spousal abuse.

Endings? - it can be happy, tragic, hopeful, elusive, or ends on a suspenseful cliffhanger (yes, go ahead and torture me with cliffhangers!) I love it all! :)

Length? - Be it short or novel-length, I treasure it all! ♥

POVs? - Any is fine! Third person subjective or omniscient both work well for these canons. First person is great for sarcastic characters since I love seeing things from their POV, or an unreliable narrator (drugged up Maglor?), or someone with a very interesting ideology and worldview (Sauron?). Second person might be great for darker stories, if you want to play with that. :)

Violence? Character death? - All fine with me!

Suddenly, Prompts! - some are pretty out there. :)

❦ If you are like me and love pictures as inspiration, perhaps exploring around Flickr may inspire? :)

❦ If you get inspiration from music, feel free to comment anonymously to this letter with "Give me a song!" and I will reply with a song at random! :) You can also specify a certain theme such as "Give me a song that's upbeat!" or "Give me a song that's about ghosts!" Something like that. :)

🌑 Do Not Wants:
− eye gore/trauma

− mpreg, a/b/o, underage

− incest of any sort (parent/child, sibling, cousin, etc)

− no rape/non-con/dub-con/abuse/etc between the characters, requested or otherwise, if they are the culprit (if they are the victim for purposes of a hurt/comfort story and the culprit is a known villain (like Sauron or a HYDRA agent) or an OC, that's fine.)

− bashing of religion or spirituality, including bashing Eru and the Valar

− Please no vilifying ANY of my requested characters, please. I love all of them equally. :)

− bashing any characters unless it is appropriate in-universe (such as Caranthir calling the dwarves ugly.)

− Would generally prefer no pairings unless if it is canon (so from this list, if it is mentions of Aino/Saku, Tuuli/Eino, Maia/Csethiro, Shaleän/wife, etc.) You can look through my other letters to see my pairings if you want to include them as background, but again, for this, I do want the focus to be on the platonic dynamics. :)

(Do note that beyond these specifications, I have no limits as to how dark you wish to make a story. Death fic is perfectly fine in some instances, especially if it's not used as a means of vilifying a character.)

Below are some more specifications if you wish for more prompts! Again, you do not have to stick to these, but if you'd like some additional ideas, they are there. Enjoy, and best of luck, you amazing creative soul! :D

💦 Stand Still Stay Silent:

🌌 Reynir Árnason & Lalli Hotakainen
Reynir and Lalli are my favorite characters in all of the webcomic from the very moment we meet them, and ever since their unique first meeting in the dreamworld I knew I would be hooked on their dynamics for all of time. :) I love the symmetry, of bubbly Reynir wanting to help to Lalli wanting to be left alone (also not understanding a word the Icelandic mage is saying.) I would love to see them team up and combine their magic in any way: fighting a ghost/troll/giant, or especially two mages versus a kade. Give me Reynir and Lalli learning one another's languages, or how they warmed up towards each other--Reynir's "You're not here" comment on page 558 (as opposed to "he's not here") sounded more personal and made me think their relationship has become close over time. I'd love to see them become friends, Lalli warming up towards Reynir. Perhaps something where each boy uses his personal strength to help the other. Perhaps Lalli gets injured and Reynir remembers something he once did to help an injured sheep, or Lalli teaches Reynir the importance of words (and not wasting them)? Reynir is still a novice in being a mage and while Onni doesn't think Finnish mages can teach Icelandic mages anything, perhaps Lalli can teach Reynir how to clear his mind, meditate, focus his magic?

🌌 Árni Reynisson & Pétur & Kristján & Lieutenant Ólafur
Sweet poor Árni. His story perhaps affected me the most from the prologue story arcs, so any story exploring more into his life on the V/S Þór and a little more of the kind of relationship he had with his fellow ship mates. Dynamics within the V/S Þór (this is excellent chance to expand on name-only characters and add in a few of your OCs!) Also, who exactly is Pétur? A doctor on deck? From the comic it seemed he and Árni have spoken a few times before about the "strange" dreams he's been having. What I would give to be a fly on the wall during one of those discussions! :) Also there seems to be hints that there's other odd things about. Give me more shady happenings in the V/S Þór; how do the other characters feel about this? How does Kristján feel about killing refugees? Does anything haunt Lieutenant Ólafur at night? And what of light-hearted moments, such as the staff engaged in a friendly game of cards! :)

🌌 Kaino & Aino & Eino & Saku Hotakainen & Tuuli & Veeti Hollola
Ah, this beautiful Finnish family! While with Árni, his story captured me instantly, the story of the Hotakainen and Hollola have been steadily growing on me until...I cannot get them out of my mind now! Show me more of this family's dynamics with one another, the Hollola and the Hotakainen. Show me their good moments and the bad while navigating in the apocalypse. The photo above looks like someone must have taken a photo of them; did they pick up any fellow survivors along the way, and how do they fit in? What if these two end up forming a small community with other surviving families that end up being the groups that made up the population of Saimaa? I would love to read a fic that picks up where the comic left off, to see the fates of the characters after three months, a year, ten years, fifty...Perhaps a story that expands on the photos from pages 46 and 47? Especially on page 47, note the abandoned boat at day 38; is that when Aino goes into labor? What happened that day? (The entire family carrying her off to find a suitable place and then all chipping in to help her give birth to their new family member would be really interesting.)

🌌 Grandma Hotakainen & Lalli Hotakainen
Ah, Grandma Hotakainen! Who I enjoy naming Taika as inspired by [personal profile] elleth ♥ so I may refer to her as such throughout here. The most we see of her in the comics thus far is the baby bump on Aino in the prologue. But from the comics we learn that Lalli seems to have spent a lot of time with Taika whereas he isn't very close to cousins Tuuri and Onni. We also know Lalli's rifle belongs to Taika, who was herself a mage. With that in mind, I would love mentor-student stories, Taika teaching Lalli magic, perhaps being protective towards him after picking up on his autism (as a side note: I do headcanon that his mother too had autism in addition to mutism, if you wish to adopt and play with that. :) ) I like to think before the Hotakainen family tragedy, Taika was Lalli's one and only friend. What did they talk about during their time together? What if Lalli knows stories Taika told him but didn't share with Onni and Tuuri, and what's contained in these stories? Is Taika as much of a hopeless cook as Lalli seems to be or did she simply not have him help her?

🔥 The Silmarillion:

🌋 Maglor & Curufin
My BrOTP! :D I headcanon that of all the sons of Fëanor, these two had the most profound relationship, being rather interesting complementaries of one another. Maglor was much older by the time Curufin, and I headcanon that he wished to help raise Curufin since he liked children; later on he becomes Curufin's confidant. With that in mind there's so much that I would love to see explored: Maglor playing a song for his brother (and Curufin pretending he hates it when in actuality, he's moved to tears by it.) Maglor-Curufin when Curufin was a child (perhaps doing cute things kids do, like trying to make a new instrument for their big sib, or Maglor teaching the little one how to write Quenya) versus when Curufin's all grown up and how that's changes their relationship. Or, Maglor having Curufin in his arms as he's bleeding to death, doing what he can to make his passing painless? If you do not mind exploring a darker prompt, perhaps the stress of losing their father, brother, and everything that has happened since the Darkening starts to make Curufin crack and he turns to self-desctructive means; I'd utterly love it if it's the love of a brother that saves him. :) (...for a short while, considering the Second Kinslaying.) I've written more prompts for them before here if you are interested. :)

🌋 Eöl & Mablung
This comes from my headcanon that these two elves are brothers. I enjoy thinking that Eöl is the youngest of a large Kinn-lai family, and while Mablung isn't necessarily the eldest child, he is one of the older ones. And in terms of personalities you cannot get any more different. Eöl is the left-brain, the serious and work-oriented; and while brother Mablung is highly achieved himself, he does have a playful and sarcastic wit about himself. So you know what this means: all the jokester big brother-nerd little brother dynamics! I would love to see Mablung tormenting Eöl in any way: teasing him on his interests/blacksmith ways, wedgies, pranks along with Beleg who at least has the decency to apologize afterwards. Or perhaps them putting their heads together to work out some solution? :)

🌋 Aredhel & OFC
Aredhel is my absolute favorite character in the Silmarillion, and I lament that we did not get more about her! In fact, it was weird that Galadriel was counted as the only princess among the Noldor during Fëanor's famous speech--where the heck was Aredhel?! Probably passed out happy-drunk somewhere. Understandably Tolkien couldn't get into the private lives of the characters as The Silmarillion was mainly concerned with the main events and battles that helped to shape the history of Middle-earth, but this is where fanfiction is great. I'm certain Aredhel had an armada of friends in Valinor, perhaps a posse to join in on her mischief! What of friendships she's formed in Mirthrim before following Turgon into Gondolin, or friendships in Nan Elmoth, for it certainly had elves beyond just Eöl and Aredhel herself. And speaking of Eöl, what if some of his dwarf friends were women, which highly intrigued Aredhel enough that she simply had to get to know them more? :D This is a wide field, so have fun here!

🌋 Aredhel & Lalwen
This ties to the above of "missed opportunities" in canon that fanfiction can really help blossom. Notice how both Aredhel and Lalwen's Quenya names, Írissë and Írimë respectively, both essentially mean the same thing? And with the knowledge that Lalwen was close to her brother Fingolfin, I bet Fingolfin named his daughter after his BFF of a younger sister! :D And I'm sure Lalwen felt honored, and that Aredhel grew up thinking highly of her cool aunt. Let's see them having an adventure! Horseback riding, Lalwen teaching Aredhel archery, or dance as I headcanon that Lalwen was a dancer; perhaps Aredhel writing hilariously sappy poems about Lalwen and her wife Elemmírë. Anything of those two: in Valinor, during the crossing of Helcaraxë, in Mithrim and then parting ways (perhaps Lalwen thought it would be safer for Aredhel, that ever wanderlust adventurer, to be in Gondolin?) What if they reunited at some point while Aredhel lived in Nan Elmoth?

🌋 Lalwen & Fingolfin
As already mentioned above, Lalwen and Fingolfin were very close friends, and I would love to see that explored more. Since I like shipping Lalwen with Elemmírë, perhaps an exploration through Lalwen's POV on why she chose to follow her brother and BFF over remaining in Valinor with her wife? Where did Lalwen live in Middle-earth: Mithrim with her brother? What was life like there? What of the day when he died? And Fingolfin: what was that day like, meeting newborn sister Lalwen? Their time in Valinor? Did Lalwen perhaps help to match him up with Anairë? :) How did they support each other during the travel through the Helcaraxë; surely Lalwen must have done her best to not only keep everyone's morale up, but also be an emotional support as Fingolfin laments each life lost to the ice.

🌋 Elemmírë & Maglor
YES! Mentor-Student relationships! :D So Fëanor, after taking note of his young son's musical gift, would surely seek out only the best teacher to help harness his gift, and who could be better than Elemmírë, the one renowned in Valinor for composing the Aldudénië (which in and of itself strikes me as a sort of mirror of the Noldolantë for some reason.) And since Aunt Lalwen happens to be married to her (in my heacanon at least!), then she can just pick Maglor up on her way to Elemmírë's studio! With this in mind: I'll be so thrilled to see any moments of Elemmírë teaching young Maglor music, especially with child Maglor being adorable (or a brat if things end up blowing in his face, the poor thing.) Or Maglor being all star-struck and heart-eyes sitting in the front row seats while Elemmírë plays in a concert! I will not mind seeing these two throughout the years either, how this prodigy student develops into a minstrel as renowned as Elemmírë herself--perhaps a collaboration between them during the noontide of Valinor!

🍃 The Hobbit:

🗻 Bifur & Kíli
These two! So if you pay close attention throughout the films, especially An Unexpected Journey, Kíli and Bifur were close to one another and interacted a lot, such as Bifur showing Kíli a nice-looking skull while the company was going through the troll-hoard. I love to think that these two are friends. Perhaps Kíli was an apprentice at Bifur's toy shop, having once been a tiny dwarfling that was drawn to the amazing toy shop. Perhaps Bifur teaching Kíli sparring or dueling or passing on knowledge on anything else? And, since I do love the Bifur-Bofur-Bombur family, perhaps some humor involving Bifur's cousins, such as him thinking the goofy Bofur is bad influence on the young noble dwarf prince? And if you do not mind exploring painful topics: Bifur's thoughts after the Battle of Five Armies, of having survived, as an old dwarf, while his young friend didn't? (also note: dwarf men and women are said in canon to look alike, so you are free to change their genders if you wish! :) )

🗻 Lírien & Gwaeren & Ammeril
The three beautiful elf women in the Hobbit film during the Rivendell scene, all pictured above, have captured the fandom's attention enough to name them (I named Gwaeren!), and I would love to see them explored more together in a gen fic! Since these are essentially characters being developed from the ground up, you are free to use your own headcanons or take a peek at my own that I touch on in another exchange letter here. Basically, I envision them as: Lírien is our dear bratty and proud harp player, Gwaeren is the easy-going and bird-loving flute player, and quiet Ammeril the serving woman who gets easily bored and loves to watch chaos unfold from the sidelines. I'd love to see them interact during any other day in Rivendell. Perhaps Lírien airing out her grievances, being too sensitive over how others receive her music, to the much older and experienced and wiser Gwaeren? With some harp-breaking in the mix, to Ammeril's silent glee (I have an odd obsession of wanting to see Lírien break her harp in a fit of rage.) It seems like these three are appointed with entertaining guests, so what other guests have they played for and served before? Anything from the serious to the utterly silly. Also, their collectively relationship with Lord Elrond? I'd be curious to see if he held meetings with them on how to pull a successful dinner for his guests ("And do promise me you will not to dump the wine jug on our guest this time, Ammeril?")

☁️ The Goblin Emperor:

🌁 Shaleän & Thever & Ursu Perenched & Holitho Sevraseched & Chenelo Drazharan & Nadeian Vizhenka
The Daughters of Maru Sevraseched have my love! It's not likely to have them all in one fic unless you go for an AU route, so you are free to either do that or pick which two or more to explore in your tale! I definitely would love to see the sisters learn of one another's existence and to interact. Perhaps Holitho used to send Chenelo gifts with religious symbols to keep her morale up during dark times? Perhaps Ursu was amused by the shenanigans stirred by Shaleän while everyone else, Ursu's husband included, was being driven up the wall? Maia meeting Shaleän and another sister or two or all? Or how about: Maia gets to meet Thever at last visiting Nadeian, and to his surprise finds her to be something of a second mother! Or perhaps: after the events of the book, Nadeian reaches out to get to know all of her sisters. There are so many ways you can go about this. :)

🌁 Kiru Athmaza & Telimezh
The Second Nohecharai captured my heart and my interest! I love them as individual characters (Kiru's story especially, and Telimezh! I wish to know more about him after his conversation with Maia on the morning of the Winternight Ball) and together as a team. Any moments between them would be abosluetley treasured. May it be something small, like Kiru taking on the older sister role and adjusting Telimezh's collar before their shift begins, or the two learning more about one another and their lives. Or, a day in the life during one of their shifts. Since the Nohecharai are tied to their emperor, anything with them and Maia: such as them teaching Maia about something new that he previously wasn't aware of. Or, can you imagine if they were on shift on the day when Maia met Shaleän? :D

🌁 Kiru Athmaza & Maia Drazhar
Again, I cannot get enough of Kiru and just how much I love her and the fact that she chooses to serve Maia. Perhaps here you can explore Maia asking her further about her life, especially her work at the charity hospitals. I do also love the idea of Kiru helping Maia in spirit, such as calming him after nightmares, and using her skills as a doctor, should Maia fall ill or if he was injured after an attack. Here would be a great place to bring in spiritual aspects of the canon. :)

🌁 Csethiro Ceredin & Csevet Aisava
I love the connection that ties these two and their fates. Csevet was clearly encouraging Maia to marry Csethiro, telling us that he approves of her very much! And Csethiro, I'm certain, would respect and like Csevet in return (as I do not think the proud elf would approve of anyone who disliked him to become empress, hahahaha!) I love that they both intensely love Maia, as shown in that post-attack scene when Csethiro went to see if Maia was all right. I would love to see them interact more, especially at any point after the canon. Perhaps some fun light bantering during meals, full of inside jokes? Or should Maia, say, come down with the flu and cannot do his duties, they push the envelope by resorting to Csethiro to make the decisions; I would love seeing Csethiro and Csevet politicking! :)
